| ... In 1826 John Walker was mixing some chemicals with the
help of a stick. There was a dried drop on the stickend. To take it away he striked the
stick on the floor. What do you think happened then? Fire blazed out! Like all
shortsighted peple he didn't take the trouble to patent his invention. He showed it to
everybody. A guy called Samuel Johnce was present at such a demonstration and realized the
market value of the invention. He called the matches Luciferies and began selling them by
tons. There were some problems with the Luciferies: they smelled badly and scattered lots
of sparks while blazing out. In 1910 the American company "Diamond Match" got
the patent for the matches which were not dangerous for health. The importance of the
invention was so great that the president of the USA William H. Taft addresse to the
patent owners and asked them to refuse author rights. The Company agreed and 28.01.1911 it
refused all the rights for the invention. Now they belong to all. |
